CSRA Heat · mental skills

The next ball is the only one you can play.

A daily card, one cue, and a lock-in for Heat teams. Written for the gym. Not a clinic, and not a file on a child.

CSRA Heat Volleyball

Who it is for

Three people. One card.

Athlete

She opens her card, says the cue, and locks in the habit. She joins with a team code, her first name, and her last initial.

Head coach

The head coach sets today's card for that team, sees who locked in, and can take out a cue or a creed word that does not fit.

Coach Pops

He can step into any Heat team, read a one-line note, and answer when a coach or a player needs him. He does not keep a file on a girl.

What she sees

One job for today.

The card rotates unless a coach pins one. The question is answered out loud. The habit is what she locks in.

Saturday · Sample R. · 14 Red

One job

You do not control the scoreboard. You control the next behavior you chose.

Question. What is the one job you can do on a bad day and a good day?

Habit. Write that job in three words or fewer and keep it where you can see it.

Cue · Early

Joining

A code. A first name. An initial.

  1. 01

    Make the code

Coach Pops names the team the way the club already does. 14 Red gets a code. The sample on this board is HEAT14.

  2. 02

    Hand it to the coach

The head coach keeps that code. One team, one code. A girl on 16 Black does not see 14 Red.

  3. 03

    She names herself

First name and last initial. Maya S. and Maya L. stay two people. If the initial still matches, she adds one more letter.

  4. 04

    The card is hers

Today's skill, the question, the habit, her focus, and her cue. She locks in on her phone. The coach sees that she did.

What we keep

  • First name and last initial
  • Team, cue, goal, and whether she locked in
  • A one-line note, if she writes one

What we do not take

  • Full last name, email, or phone from a player
  • Birthday, school, or a parent contact
  • A diagnosis, a mood score, or a private history

For parents

Skills for the match. Not treatment.

Next Ball teaches a process goal, a behavior she can choose, and a reset between points. It is educational. It is not counseling, and it does not replace a licensed clinician if a child needs one.

A coach can copy the day's habit for a parent. The parent does not get a login, and the girl is not asked to explain herself in writing.
